A barndominium kit is the engineered shell. You make it home.
A barndominium kit from Western is everything above the foundation that makes the building stand up and stay dry: engineered trusses, laminated columns, steel roofing and siding, trim, fasteners and stamped drawings for your site. It ships as one order on our trucks.
What turns it into a home is up to you and your builder: insulation, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and interior finish. Plan on those costing another 1.5 to 2 times the shell materials. Anyone who quotes a barndominium without saying where their package stops is making it hard to compare.
Because post-frame trusses clear-span the full width, the interior has no load-bearing walls to design around. Great rooms, vaulted ceilings and an attached shop all fit the same simple structure.
Popular barndominium kit sizes.
Materials ranges for the shell. Your price depends on eave height, windows, doors, finishes and your site’s snow and wind loads.

Barndominium kit questions.
How much does a barndominium kit cost?
Industry-wide, barndominium shell materials run roughly $25 to $75 per square foot. A 40x60x16 shell package typically lands between $60,000 and $150,000. Interior finish, labor, concrete and site work are separate and typically add another 1.5 to 2 times the shell number.
What is included in a Western barndominium kit?
The engineered shell: trusses, laminated columns, steel roofing and siding, trim, fasteners, framing for doors and windows, and stamped drawings for your site. Premium finishes such as Versetta Stone, Diamond Kote siding and Gerkin windows can ship with the same order.
Is a barndominium kit the same as a steel building kit?
No. Our barndominium kits are post-frame: laminated wood columns and engineered wood trusses with steel roofing and siding. Wood framing makes it simple to insulate, run utilities and attach interior finishes, and the clear span leaves the floor plan open.
Can I build a barndominium kit myself?
Yes. Owner-builders buy through our Western Core program, and many hire a framing crew for the shell and finish the interior themselves. The stamped drawings ship with the package, and we can point you to builders in our contractor network.
Will a barndominium kit meet my county’s building code?
Every package is engineered for the snow load, wind exposure and code requirements at your build site, with stamped drawings for your permit. Residential codes vary by county, so share your site details early.
Where do you deliver barndominium kits?
On our own trucks to Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Idaho, Utah, New Mexico, Texas and Nevada.
